New Brain Radiation Study Published in the Prestigious Journal Lancet
A new phase 3 trial published in Lancet shows non-small cell lung cancer patients have no significant benefit (quality of life or survival) from whole brain radiation. Yet significant side effects do occur. Therefore, it may be wise to decline whole brain radiation. The authors suggest perhaps focused radiation is more useful. Patients with lung cancer and brain metastases should discuss this study with their radiation oncologist.
