OAA Therapy Overview

Updated Jun 30, 2022

WHAT IS OAA?

OAA= oxaloacetic acid. Brand name: Benagene. OAA is a natural chemical that is found in all the cells of the body. OAA is part of the chemical system that uses glucose and oxygen to generate energy to power the cell.

HOW DOES OAA WORK?

OAA has been shown to block cancer cells from using a chemical called glutamine as a source of energy, It also blocks cancer cells from using glucose for energy. Cutting off the energy source of cancer cells can trigger natural cell suicide (“apoptosis”).

WHAT ARE THE COMMON SIDE EFFECTS OF OAA?

OAA side effects are generally very mild or non-existent. OAA can cause mild sedation or a relaxed peaceful feeling.

HOW FAST DOES OAA WORK?

At Medicor OAA is used in combination with other medicines that block the energy supply of cancer cells (such as DCA). Combination therapy with OAA typically takes up to 3 months to evaluate, but we often see objective results as early as 2 weeks after the start of therapy.

HOW IS OAA ADMINISTERED?

A stable forms of OAA called enol-oxaloacetate is used for cancer therapy. OA comes in oral capsules. OA can be custom compounded in a special intravenous formulation and administered at the Medicor office. OA capsules can be opened and given through a G-tube or J-tube with some fluid. Typical OA protocols at Medicor involve daily oral dosing, high dose oral dosing twice per week, or high dose intravenous infusion twice per week.
